Drug Eluting Balloon in the Interventional Treatment of Coronary Artery Bifurcation Lesions

    • Percutaneous coronary interventions for bifurcation lesions are often complex and associated with an unsatisfactory outcome, even in the era of drug eluting stents. The implantation of drug eluting stent induced endothelium endothelialization delayed, local allergic inflammation, increasing risk of stent thrombosis and other issues. The introduction of drug eluting balloons (DEB) creates a new hope by inhibiting neointimal hyperplasia without increasing the risk of thrombosis. The application of DEB in the treatment of bifurcation lesions is reviewed in this paper.
